For our third year in a row, the Grow Team took part in yesterday’s Melbourne Marathon – our biggest fundraiser of the year!
The kids team braved the cold mornings at the start of training but they smiled all the way. This event really has become a highlight for the children who completely understand that they are running ‘to help kids who can’t’, and their commitment to the event and imagination when it comes to fundraising is pretty incredible!
This year a group of them held a smoothie day at school, raising over $800! Well done girls!!
Training took different forms this year with our kids spread all over Melbourne – some trained at our regular training sessions with Adam, some trained solo. At their final training session they were treated to a pep talk from Commonwealth Games Sprinter, Glenys Nall – who inspired them all with her gold medal from the ’60s! Glenys is also grandmother to 7yo Gryffin Morrison who is sitting in the front row with his ‘Can You Please Sponsor Me’ sign!
We were blessed this year with incredible weather – so hot in fact some of us had to stop to cool down…
The kids achieved some personal bests with Kyle running both the 10km AND the 5km (to help another child complete their race), Lily running the 5km despite being quite unwell and Adam ran the 40k – again this year. What an amazing effort!
It was truly lovely to see the team helping each other out in so many ways proving that helping others is not only noble but good for the soul!
The team raised over $11,000 this year – which goes a long way towards our annual target! And there were some pretty proud children heading off to show and tell this morning…
We have so many people to thank – children, parents and sponsors. This is a really fun event with a great objective but it would not be possible without support. And this support makes it possible for us to present IAHP’s Annual Parent Training event coming up again in March 2015.
If you would like to join us next year, send us an email. Big or small, all are welcome on the Grow Team!
